Lux Vivens: The Music of Hildegard von Bingen

Jocelyn Montgomery Press Release

Jocelyn Montgomery Collaborates with David Lynch on Debut Album Lux Vivens (Living Light) The Music of Hildegard von Bingen

Los Angeles – It is a rare artist these days that gets discovered by chance. Jocelyn Montgomery wasn't even looking for a record contract; she was just singing aloud while on a walk in the Hollywood Hills. But within weeks of that encounter, the talented vocalist was recording her debut album in the new studio of noted filmmaker David Lynch (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart).

As a completed work, Lux Vivens (Living Light) is both rare and beautiful. The songs are modern interpretations of works by Hildegard von Bingen, a renowned German nun who lived in the 12th century. Jocelyn was drawn to Hildegard's history as much as her music. Beyond Hildegard's life as an abbess and a musician, she was also an early feminist, an expert in natural science and herbal medicine, and a controversial cult figure who even had an affair with a priest.

On Lux Vivens (Living Light), angelic soprano melodies play off deeper, haunting drones which were originally provided by monks. This time around, Jocelyn's soaring vocals intertwine with Lynch's brooding soundscapes, breathing new life into Hildegard's works. From the more sacred titles such as "Kyrie," "Alleluia" and "Gloria Patri" to the more secular ones like "Sapiente," "Et Ideo" and "Battle & Aftermath," this is a work of great depth and mystery.

Look out for more information on this project, including tour dates later this year. Jocelyn Montgomery and David Lynch's Lux Vivens (Living Light) will be in stores on August 25th.
