LynchLetter #4, December 2, 1999

Hi all.

It's been a long while since I sent out the last newsletter so this one is really overdue. I'm sorry that it took me so long but I was and still am really busy so just a few facts and news.

David Lynch acts at Traphik

Traphik.com has launched with it's first three episodes. David Lynch (who is a wonderful actor ) stars in the second episode and will be staring in the 5th and 6th episodes as well. Please come and view the streaming videos at http://www.traphik.com.

The David Lynch Web Site

David Lynch said in a recent interview that he hopes to get online on New Year's. So that's definitely something to look forward to. The URL is http://www.davidlynch.com

Hey, and don't you find it funny that he wants to launch his web site exactly when some expect that the millennium bugs will whack us hard???

Woodcutters From Fiery Ships

The CD-rom game was "blocked from the get-go", because it would have been completely boring to game buffs. David Lynch wanted a "conundrum thing... a beautiful kind of place to put yourself. You try to make a little bit of mystery and a bit of a story, but you want it to be able to bend back upon itself and get lost."
"It was called... Woodcutters from Fiery Ships... Certain events have happened in a bungalow which is behind another in Los Angeles. And then suddenly the woodcutters arrive and they take the man who we think has witnessed these events, and their ship is... uh, silver, like a 30's kind of ship, and the fuel is logs. And they smoke pipes."

European Film Awards

The Straight Story has been nominated in the SCREEN INTERNATIONAL AWARD 1999 for a non-European film by the European Film Academy. David Lynch will be in Berlin on Saturday (December 4) to attend the awards.

In the United States, the awards will air live on the Sundance Channel on Dec. 4 at 9 p.m. and will repeat on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 2:30 p.m.; Thursday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. and 11 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 11 at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.; and Thursday, Dec. 30, at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Recent Updates to The City of Absurdity

I added many The Straight Story reviews and articles (btw, if you haven't seen it yet, it's one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen and you should definitely go and see this film).
Also added the "revealing" New Yorker article on Mulholland Drive - so that's where you should find answers to your questions why the series project is dead and whether or not you should see the "chopped" pilot that ABC may air some day.

What else to remember?

"I love sitting in chairs! There's something about sitting in a chair and just letting your mind wander. It gets harder and harder to do, but it's real important, because you don't know what you're going to wander into. And you can't try to control the wandering. You need time to think about mundane or absurd things or junk before you start getting down into something that could be useful. It doesn't always happen that something useful kicks in, but it wouldn't happen if you didn't give it a chance." (David Lynch)
